Michigan reels in top international recruit Oscar Goodman

Michigan scored a commitment from forward Oscar Goodman, the top international recruit in the Class of 2025.

The New Zealand product playing at the NBA’s Global Academy in Australia told ESPN on Wednesday that he’s headed to Ann Arbor next season.

Described as an inside-outside threat at 6-foot-8, Goodman could fit multiple roles in new head coach Dusty May’s perimeter-focused, 5-out offense.

“I really liked the ‘we do everything for each other’ environment. I was big on having great team chemistry and could tell all the guys enjoyed being around each other,” Goodman told ESPN.

The NBA Academy has produced two No. 6 picks in the NBA draft in recent years. The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Josh Giddey in 2021 and the Indiana Pacers landed Bennedict Mathurin in 2022. Mathurin, who is from Montreal, starred at Arizona before entering the draft.

Recruitment of Goodman shifted gears after he was named to the All-Tournament First-Team at the U17 FIBA World Cup this summer. He averaged 17 points and 6.3 rebounds as New Zealand finished fourth.
